The ASRT was founded on July 9th, 2008. The overall goal of the society is to provide a platform for the advancement of education, science and practice of reconstructive transplant surgery. The guiding principle of the Society is to provide members and visitors with a concept that enables and encourages everybody with an interest in Reconstructive Transplantation to participate towards our goal of promoting progress and information exchange in this growing field.
Two key aspects of the ASRT are critical in achieving this mission:
1. Unique Membership Features:
All members will have access to comprehensive up-to-date information on the current status and outcomes of clinical programs, studies including those that are in progress but not yet approved/established, links to relevant publications and the opportunity for communication and information exchange. On platforms established on this website, members can pose questions and receive scientific advice for any problems arising during the course of a transplanted patient or the establishment of a study. To facilitate such information exchange, members of the ASRT will have access to a Scientific Advisory Committee comprised of expert transplant immunologists and reconstructive surgeons. These individuals are available for all members for advice, input, feedback and support via the website of the society. We believe, that this will also result in the establishment of collaborations between institutions and promote the concept of multi-institutional studies. Members will also have free access to video recordings of the scientific sessions at the inaugural ACRTS as well as subsequent meetings.
2. Innovative Website and Inclusive Society Structure:
A well-defined, appealing, user-friendly and structured website is important for the Society, especially as the website is the core element that exemplifies its mission. With this in mind, specific platforms have been established as part of the website, which allow members to ask questions, suggest ideas, post and exchange information and discuss interesting findings.
All communication will be paperless and be performed as a function of the ASRT website. The ASRT logo was selected for its symbolism, simplicity and aesthetic value. The design of the logo and planning of the website were done by Buiss Ultimo GMBH, a company with extensive experience in web-based technologies.
The website will also provide a means to propose and select candidates for the Board as well as candidates for the Committees. At the termination of each term, 3 members shall leave the Board and be replaced by 3 new members. Such opportunity for recruitment will ensure that the society remains innovative and open to anybody who is willing to contribute to its growth and development.
Such turnover will allow flexibility and distribution of control and decision-making at the leadership level within the Society and ultimately contribute to open minded collaboration in the field. All members will have the right to participate in election of officials who direct the business of the society. In keeping with the inclusive nature o the Society, we offer the unique opportunity to become a Founding Member to all participants of the 1st ACRTS Meeting. A Founding Member can be any individual who is willing to make a sincere commitment towards the Society.
Contribution to the establishment of this society or service on the Board or on Committees is purely voluntary and no member is remunerated for their position. One of the goals during the first term is to establish a sound mechanism for sustained funding of the Society. One such means to achieve this is by establishing a relationship with Commercial partners for the support of the Society with such support possibly extended towards an Annual Scientific Meeting of the ASRT.
